Who we are

A team of internationally recognised geotechnical engineers and scientists

Since its establishment in 1997, the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems (COFS) has developed one of the most sophisticated research and modelling facilities in offshore geotechnics in the world.

We are a team of internationally recognised geotechnical engineers and scientists with strong links to offshore wind developers, contractors and consulting engineers. We work on both fundamental and applied research to address the most pressing problems facing the offshore renewable energy industry.

What we do

Through our research, we’re making offshore systems safer

Our research is aimed at making offshore systems safer, more efficient and more environmentally sustainable. We do this by understanding the mechanical behaviour of seabeds and establishing links between their response and the performance of foundation and anchoring systems during installation, operation and decommissioning.

We adopt a variety of investigative methods including geotechnical centrifuge modelling, field testing, numerical modelling and data science approaches. For a flavour of our research activity visit the recent projects most of which are carried out in close cooperation with industry.
