Juan is investigating uncertainty in soil characterization, with the goal of developing statistical models that provide a framework for predicting geotechnical properties of unsampled sites. One of the main objectives of the research is to involve geotechnical properties derived from a geophysical investigation within the prediction process.

Vas’ research is offshore geotechnical in nature, with a primary focus on investigating pipe-soil interaction on pipeline free-span shoulders. His research also explores seismic geotechnical engineering, offshore wind turbine foundations and soil liquefaction.

An’s research adresses the behaviour of monopiles for offshore wind turbines. His focus is on quantifying behaviour at different loading rates, which involves integrating data from centrifuge modelling with element tests on natural offshore soil samples.

Farnoud’s PhD focuses on quantifying the operational shear strength of near-surface seabeds, accounting for effects associated with partial drainage, strain softening and hardening, and strain rates. The ultimate aim of his research is to improve methods to scale from the strength measured in an element test or in situ to that relevant for seabed foundations and infrastructure.

Junsik’s doctoral study focuses on developing a new type of dynamically installed anchor that is both cost-effective and provides improved performance in water and soil. In addition, he is developing an advanced soil-structure interface friction algorithm for more accurate capturing of interface frictional resistance using the CEL approach in ABAQUS.

Pourya is a PhD student whose research interests focus on a wide range of challenges in the design and installation of offshore wind turbine (OWT) foundations – including numerical modelling of the vibro-driving installation for OWT monopiles and in-service response of offshore foundations under cyclic/seismic loading conditions using advanced constitutive models and FE tools.

Junhao is focussing on addressing challenges in predicting the installation of drag anchors for offshore floating platforms. His work includes developing a Reliability Based Assessment framework to optimise anchor design and studying side loading effects on drag anchors to assess reliability under extreme conditions.
